your se FAQs are for architects submitting designs to Opoplan.
More general FAQs are here.
How will my design be sold?
Your design will be held in OPOPLAN’s online portfolio. Rather than browsing designs online, a customer will go through an online process of creating a design brief, and identifying their site or lot. Based on this information, OPOPLAN’s combines the seed plans with our customization process to generate an individualized design solution for the customer that reponds to their site and brief.
How much and when will I be paid?
We will pay a fee to you of 20 to 25% of the fees we earn on your designs every time a design is sold. There is no limit to the number of times your design can be sold. Additional Terms and Condtions are available when you submit.
You will normally be paid by EFT within 5 days of sale.
Will my name be on the design?
Not at this time, though later we may decide to introduce a referral option.
What if I don’t want my design used in a particular place?
That’s fine. You can impose restrictions on the use of your design in terms of geography or embargo date. Limiting the use of your design will obviously impact the frequency of sales though.
What if I don’t want my design to be modified?
The nature of OPOPLAN is that we make modifications to designs as and where they are necessary to meet the requirements of our clients’ site/plot or brief. All potential changes to a design are decided in advance by our architects who make all efforts to ensure they are consistent with the logic and quality of your design. However, by submitting designs to OPOPLAN, you do accept that your designs may potentially be modified.
No right of approval is offered.
I’m concerned about design liability – how does that work?
There is no liability to you. All designs will be sold to customers under our Terms and Conditions, which free the original design architect from any liability. The exact details of this will be in the Commercial Terms and Conditions that you and OPOPLAN agree to.
Can anyone submit designs?
No. You must be a registered / licensed architect. In order to guarantee quality for our customers, proof of education and/ or professional membership will be required upon registration. After that, you may submit designs as often as you please. .
Does this mean I’m selling the copyright of my designs?
No. All copyright remains with the original author, i.e., you, the architect.
In most jurisdictions, architects retain copyright on their designs. Clients are normally granted a licence to use those designs once, but the architect (author) is free to reuse the design.
You grant OPOPLAN rights and licence to sell your design on for use multiple times going forward in addition to you retaining rights to do what you wish with your design.
You must also indemnify OPOPLAN against any risk to us that the design you supply infringes copyright (ie that it belongs to someone else).
How do I sign up?
You can simply email us, and we will respond to you directly and tell you what you need to do from there. Creating an account with us is simple. Then all you’ll need to do is submit proof that you’re a licensed architect, send us your receiving account details (so we can pay you!), and finally submit as many designs as you like. You can specify the restriction (see above) on them and then simply sit back and wait until your design is sold.
How do I submit designs?
You can submit design drawings : plans, sections, and elevations, 3d – in any digital format (PDF to CAD) once they’re legible to us. We need to redraw the design to work within our own system, so the format in which you submit is isn’t so important. For now, you can submit by email to email@example.com.
Opoplan may on occasion decline to host a design. This is probably because we have numerous designs that are very similar to yours and do not wish to be unfair to architects who submitted their designs before you. We will inform you immediately if this arises and delete your submission.
Do I have to manage the delivery of, or changes to the designs for end customers
No unlike many other plan sites, at Opoplan we take care of all of that. The only work you do is the intial submission and registration, we do everthing else.
